Why would Council use NDA's?

NDA - Nondisclosure Agreement

Why would the Village of Edgerton use NDA's for Personal/ Private Meetings with Council?

The Village of Edgerton uses NDA's for select meetings to allow both guests and council to have an open conversation about sensitive topics like issues related to HR, and other information's that are classified as protected.

Guests at Council Meetings hold no legal requirement for confidentiality, however the Village of Edgerton's Council and Staff do hold this legal requirement. An NDA removes the imbalance blocking both parties from speaking about the Meetings Agenda, discussed topics, and allows for an agreed upon statement to be released.

What happens after a Meeting involving an NDA?

At the end of the Meeting the formation of an agreed upon statement would be released. These statements are checked to ensure compliance with all applicable laws before being released to the public.

Are NDAs a tool to silence people?

In the most basic form, Yes.

In a modern world NDA's allow people to have an open conversation and ensure that both parties have equal responsibility to confidentiality. In a meeting with sensitive topics it ensures that the final statement supports all the information provided, and that all in attendance agree with final statement.
