The Village of Edgerton's Compost Pile is down by the Dog Park and Storage Lot!

 

What CAN and CAN'T be Composted?

What is allowed in the compost pile:

  • Molding Bread
  • Rice and plain cooked Pasta
  • Vegetable Peels
  • Banana Peels
  • Rotting Fruits and Vegetables
  • Egg Shells, Egg scraps (Not whole eggs)
  • Coffee Grounds and Filters, Tea Bags
  • Napkins, Paper Towels and Tissues
  • Pet Hair
  • Yard Clippings: Grass, Leaves, Small Twigs and Sticks
  • Brown Cardboard
  • Non-shiny news paper, broken down/shredded (NO SHINY FLYERS)

Not Recommended for Composting:

  • Citrus Peels: Grape Fruit, Orange, Lemon or Limes Peels, as they can be slow to decompose and may make the compost too acidic, potentially harming plants.
  •  Large quantities of Onions and Garlic: These can repel earthworms and good bugs, which are a vital component of a healthy compost!

Absolutely NO:

  • Meat Scraps
  • Fish
  • Baked Goods
  • Bones
  • Grease, Oils
  • Whole Eggs
  • Dairy Products (Milk, Cheese, Butter)
  • Diseased Plants
  • Weeds
  • "Compostable" Plastic styled bags
  • Plastic garbage bags
  • Household Garbage: glass, metal or plastic bottles
  • Waxed Papers including paper take out containers, paper cups, paper plates and shiny flyers.
  • Doggy poop bags or dog poop
  • Cat Litter
  • Manufactured, painted or treated woods. Including treated yard clippings.
